Did
you know that bicycle accidents lead to more Emergency Room visits for children
than any other type of accident, and that in the first year of New Jersey's Bicycle
Helmet Law deaths for riders younger than 14 dropped by 80%?
Keep
these thoughts in mind as summer comes and your child does more bike riding. Bike
helmets effectively protect your child from a serious head injury. They should
be worn at ALL times. Most children's bike accidents don't involve
cars. They happen from falls, which don't only occur on the street. They can happen
in the driveway, on a path, in the park - anywhere.
Helmets
now come in many styles, colors and designs. As more kids wear them, they are
becoming more accepted by other kids. Let your child choose the one he or she
likes best, and praise them from wearing it. Remember to set a good example by
wearing your helmet when you ride your bike. Your family motto should be
"No helmet, no riding".
